School Direct

Welcome to School Direct PGCE with Great Sankey Teaching School Alliance.

Here you will find everything you need to know about our programme, how to apply and

how we can support your development as a teacher.

The route into teaching via School Direct PGCE is a hands on teacher training experience -

we work in partnership with other schools and the University of Cumbria to provide a tailor

made PGCE programme to offer high quality training.

We pride ourselves on the supportive nature of our programme, partnerships and above all our trainees who go on to become great teachers.

Our trainee teachers thrive because of the superb guidance and professional development they receive from outstanding mentors.  Many have gone on to gain employment in schools within our Alliance or at schools across Cheshire and Merseyside.

“Thank you so much for the support you have given me. What happened today would not have taken place without all your hard work training me and supporting my development over the past six months. I feel relieved that I don’t have to worry about getting a job now and I feel extremely motivated, here’s to future progress…”

Matthew Wilson,

Geography SD 2013/14

“Training to become a teacher is... undoubtedly rewarding, incredibly challenging and indisputably taxing. However it only takes one child to say 'thanks Miss that was a great lesson' and it becomes the most rewarding job."

Helen Crowder,

English SD 2014/15

“Tailored professional development sessions alongside the two quality placements meant my weaknesses were identified and addressed and I have a wealth of experience to share with my new school…..my ideas, resources and teaching methods (nearly all stolen from placement colleagues or professional development!) have been a real asset in my first term of teaching.”

Luke Hawkins, History SD 2013/14
